About Sequoia Print E-mail

Established in 2002, Sequoia is an award winning restaurant and special events venue. As a restaurant, it's menu melds American and European cuisines and pays tribute in its more robust altdishes to California in the Gold Rush. With an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients, original flavor profiles and exquisite presentation, Sequoia pairs its cuisine with wines of the Sierra Foothills as well as select wines from other California regions and overseas.

Sequoia is housed in the beautiful Victorian style Bee-Bennett House on Bee Street in Placerville, California. You can read the story here of how owners Danica and Nello Olivo rescued this historical building from crumbling disrepair, giving it new life.

And LIFE it has! Day and night, Sequoia is alive with activity, not only as a fine food establishment, but as a special events venue as well. With several event rooms from the tiny Molly's Parlor to the grand gold-rush era Empire Ballroom, something is always happening or being planned to happen at Sequoia. Weddings, business breakfasts, anniversary parties, banquets, rehearsal dinners, cooking classes, nightlife-style entertainment, music and dancing. Sequoia's "present" is as busy as one can imagine its past must have been.

Originally built by Colonel Fredrick Bee in 1853, the house lies just 8 miles from the gold discovery site at Sutter's Mill. It must have been a bastion of civilized hospitality during the rough-and-tumble gold rush era, and it's history and that of the Colonel are fascinating to read.

Today, Sequoia is headed by General Manager, David R. Bagley, a classically trained chef himself. The restored elegance of the Bee-Bennett House inspires him and his staff and embraces all who visit Sequoia with a vision of living in appreciation of the finest food, warmest friends, and all of life's reasons for gracious gatherings.
